The Stammering act which is touted as the entertaining part is an overdose. If Charlie and Guddu ( the twins both played by Shahid) were not enough then Priyanka joins in. In Fact everybody would think the purpose of Speech defect was fun, but the more memorable jokes are from the wise cracks of Priyanka or Bhope.
I guesss Vishal is trying to use the success of Chup Chup ke where Shahid couldnt say a word. I would anyday prefer Shahid as dumb rather than wait painfully for Shahid to complete a sentence.
The unpredictability is at best debatable. To the logical mind, it is not really unpredictable who the police will pick up when one of the twin brothers does a crime.
What has outraged me as a rational movie goer, is the lack of consistent plot. The treatment met out to the characters is equally annoying and I feel immensely sorry for them.
The Druglord Tashi who initially comes as a no nonsense Rutheless don, has to settle with Charlie destroying crores worth drugs and he manages to kill all but Charlie, Guddu and Priyanka. Now thats not unpredictable for a Bollywood movie goer or is it!!!!.
Imagine four different parties loaded with guns shoot everybody except the two brothers and the Girl Priyanka. Possibly they didnt want to kill speech defective people!!!! .
Many would agree that there is nothing entertaining about the last 20 mins. Probably Vishal Bhardwaj can take lessons from Priyadarshan on how to make a commotion entertaining.
Every body is led to believe that the NGO worker Guddu has some morals. But he actually ditches his brother, assaults his brother from the back, uses the 'BAD' money for his selfish interests. He actually emotinally brainwashes his brother for the money. Imagine he never told his brother that it was nobodys fault that their father died. He only does this when he needs the guitar worth 10 crores...wow..that is some character.
The USP of the movie is touted as unpredictability. Unpredictability doesnt mean you mess with basic fabric of each character. Imagine If in Sholay Jai or Veeru ditch each or if Mogambo/Gabbar beomes a gentleman in the end, if in Lagaan Aamir Khan ditches his own team for the british lady. I would rather term such characters as too selfish and inconsistent to be potrayed on Big Screen.
What Kaminey shows is inconsistency and not unpredictablity.
A short duration bollywood movie which would be welcome for viewers who cant leave behind their brains would take an exception to Kamine. The movie is actually hollow and lacking substance. There are bits which are neither entertaining nor fit in the movie.
My list would start with the scene where the drug lord gives a gift to his girlfriend. What on earth was that scene meant for. Looks like Somebody had promised the gorgeous lady that she would feature in the movie.
The most useless characters are the Bengali brothers( and they get so much of screen space) The youngest brother, stupidest of all does a panstakingly long act to annoy. After the sheer stupid scene with the Marathi leader Bhope, even I would have shot that character. And this same character initially came across as someone who's very accomplished..remember hes does that rain race with shahid and appears to very apt at robbery.
The one thing you cant take away from Kamine Kaminey is breath taking performances from Priyanka who in every bit looks like a Marathi Mulgi, Amol Gupte as Maharashtrian politician Bhope and Shiv Subramanium as the vulnerable corrupt cop Lobo. As for Shahid, he does show off his hard work in his macho body. But Dude I would prefer Shahid anyday in a normal speaking person as in Jab we met, or as completely speechless in Chupke Chupke. Not in between.
And who would like to put social messages in dark humoured violent movies Like Guddu's AIDS awareness campaign and Bhope's anti North Indian Stand. Dark Humoured violent movies are only commendable when the plot and characters are consistent like in Omkaara or Maqbool. Johnny Gaddar and Race are much more unpredicatble and entertaing criminal movies. For me Vishal has got it all mixed up. This movie is not worth a watch in the halls. I would go for this movie if Vishal offers me a discount for the lack of substance.
